Answer: D2 steel is a high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel known for its excellent wear resistance and edge retention. While not completely stainless, it offers decent corrosion resistance for everyday use. It's a popular choice for knives due to its balance of toughness and durability.
Answer: We often use D2 steel in our 704 Gear knives because it strikes an excellent balance between affordability and performance. It holds a razor-sharp edge incredibly well, making it ideal for demanding tasks. Plus, D2 is tough enough to resist chipping and maintain its edge even with heavy use.
Answer: Solid-Core Damascus refers to a type of steel created by layering and forge-welding different steel alloys with contrasting properties. This process creates a unique, layered pattern resembling wood grain that is both visually appealing and enhances the steel's performance. There are knives on the market that are etched Damascus or use a different metal inside. At 704 Gear, we only use solid-core Damascus.
Answer: G10 is a super-strong composite material made of fiberglass layers soaked in resin. It's a favorite for knife handles because it's incredibly durable, lightweight, and resistant to moisture, temperature changes, and chemicals. G10 can also be textured for a secure grip even in wet conditions.
Answer: We selectively use Blood Sandalwood for some of our knife handles. This exotic wood is prized for its deep red color, beautiful grain patterns, and natural density. Blood Sandalwood is exceptionally hard and resistant to wear and tear, making it an excellent choice for a handle that will last a lifetime.
What kind of warranty do you offer on your 704 Gear knives?
Answer: We stand behind our craftsmanship with a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. If something goes wrong with your knife due to how it was made, we'll repair or replace it, no questions asked.
